Kids Beds

Before you start hitting the ground running, to your bedding stores; you need to consider the follow:

  • How long do you want this bed and mattress to last my child?
  • Do I want to “future proof” this bed, and get a larger size?
  • What comfort level do you want? (firm, medium, soft)
  • What size bed will best fit in the bedroom space?

Hopefully this will prepare you for the exciting task of creating a sleeping space of your child’s dream… pun intended.

How long do you want this bed and mattress to last my child?

When it comes to the style of the bed frame, it is important to keep in mind; how long do you want this to last your child? If you are wanting to avoid having to get a new bed frame when they hit their “teenage years”, we suggest keeping thee style neutral and timeless. This way; as your child grows and taste changes, they can change. their bedroom style with a new throw, or quilt cover set, without needing to invest in a new bedroom suite.

Slumberworld has a great range of bedroom furniture, to suit a large variety of styles.

Do I want to “future proof” this bed, and get a larger size?

This goes hand in hand with the previous question. Some families want to cater for a larger size bed, to allow their child to grow. Or you could be allowing space for a parent to co sleep when needed. Other parents find the jump from a cot to a larger bed too daunting, and stick with a single size to help their little one ease into the transition.

There is no right or wrong answer. It is a great idea to plan what size bed is best suited for your child’s transition to their “big kid bed”, before shopping.

What comfort level do you want? (firm, medium, soft)

The transition from a cot to a “big kid bed” can be daunting. Some parents opt to get a mattress with a similar comfort level to a cot mattress. Which are generally on the firmer side. Or there is the option to go for a plush mattress. This is entirely a personal choice, and a way to get your little one excited for their bed transition, is to keep them involved in the process of selecting a mattress and bed. When shopping for a mattress, it is important for the longevity to select a double sided mattress. Having the option to flip and rotate your mattress will help keeping its shape and comfort to years to come. At Slumberworld, we make a great range of mattresses, to suit every comfort!

What size bed will best fit in the bedroom space?

Take measurements of the room, and any plans with bedroom furniture you may way to add; ie, tallboy or dresser, study desk, chairs play mats etc. This will help you visualise where you will put the bed, what style of bed frame you can use in the space, or if you need to be “storage savvy” and look for a bed that has storage in the bedhead or base. Sometimes, the bedroom layout makes the decisions for you, and can help narrow down the list of bedroom furniture to choose from.
