What are the dimensions of a queen size mattress?
A queen mattress is 153cm wide by 203cm long. This translates to 5 foot wide by 6 foot and 8 inches long in the old measurements.
Should a queen mattress be double-sided or single sided?
A queen mattress should be double sided. This allows for even wear over the life of the mattress. However, if a queen mattress is single sided, it should be 70% cheaper than a double sided equivalent, given it uses than less half the materials. We would say ‘buyer beware’ when it comes to buying a one sided / half mattress.
How long does a queen mattress last for?
As a starting point, a good quality queen mattress should last for 10 years. However, the lifespan of some queen mattresses will vary depending on quality. For example, an entry level mattress will might last for 5-7 years, whereas a top quality queen mattress could last for 12-17 years.
Can a queen mattress be recycled?
Yes. A queen mattress can be recycled. If you are replacing your mattress, you should ask the company you are buying the mattress from to ensure it is being recycled and not transferred to a landfill. At Slumberworld, we recycle every mattress we take away from a customers house!
How much should a good queen mattress cost?
A high quality queen size mattress should normally cost between $1,500 – $2,700.
Many retail companies have incredibly huge mark ups on their mattresses, just so they can advertise a mattress being ‘on sale’ all year round. For example, they may say a queen mattress is worth $10,000, but will sell it you today for $5,000. The customer believe they are getting a deal, but in reality the retail company are still profiting on an extremely high mark up. What size doona should go on a queen mattress?
A queen size doona will fit a queen size mattress. However, we normally recommend a king size doona on a queen size mattress. This provides you with more doona to snuggle up with in those winter months (and also for couples where one person takes to much doona).
